- SHARC Version 6.0
- 6/9/88
- The SHell for ARC's
-
- By: Jim Derr
-
-
- Please note the the following Limit of liability statement was added
- because I was told that there is a hacked version of this program
- floating around some BBS'S. The hacked version reportidly wipes out
- the FAT on the disk that SHARC is running on. Since I can't control
- this please test out the version you get on a scratch floppy first.
-
-
- LIMIT OF LIABILITY
-
- SHARC is distributed asis. The author disclaims all warranties,
- expressed or implied. The author will assume no liability for damages
- either from the direct use of this product or as a consequence of the
- use of this product.
-
-
-
- SHARC is a shell program to make viewing and working with ARC files user
- friendly. It is written in TURBOC with some screen I/O routines written in
- ASM. In order for SHARC do function you must have Phil Katz's PKARC and PKXARC
- programs, and Vern Buerg's LIST program.
-
- Please note that these programs are copyrighted and they can be obtained from
- most BBS.

-
- This is the first release of SHARC and I am distributing it via COMPUSERVE plus
- various BBS'S for comments and suggestions. You can leave comments on this BBS
- or contact me via COMPUSERVE I.D. 76266,2634.
-
- SHARC is fast and lean. With it you can View, Extract, Add, Freshen, Update,
- and Test most archive files. To startup SHARC simply enter SHARC
- d:\path\filespec. SHARC will search your path looking for PKARC, PKXARC, and
- LIST. If these can not be found an error message will be displayed and the
- program will terminate. If all the supporting programs are found the ARC file
- will be examined and you will be presented with a screen showing the contents
- of the ARC file.
-
- To perform a function simply position the highlite bar and press the key that
- corresponds to the function you want to perform on that member. Press the F1
- key will open a window showing all valid command keys.
-
- If there is enough interest I will release updated versions of SHARC.
-
-
- Please let me know how you like SHARC.

-
- Due to some suggestions by Bob Jacobson this is the second release of SHARC.
- This release fixes a previous bug in SHARC that would hang the PC if wild
- cards were specified on the command line. WILDCARDS ON THE COMMAND LINE
- ARE NOW SUPPORTED!
-
- To move from one ARC file to another simply press the N key to look at the
- next ARC file or press the ALT-N key to view the previous ARC file.
-
- Another enhancment is the addition of the ALT-D key. Press this
- combination will attempt to delete all previously extracted files from
- either the current directory or the directory specified using the ALT-P
- command. (NOTE: USE THIS OPTION WITH CARE).
-
-
- A little note on the ALT-P command. This command prompts you for a
- drive:\path to extract files into. This path remains until you reset it using
- the ALT-P again. The path you specify is used to save extracted files into
- and is also used when you use the ALT-D command.
-
-
- NOTES FOR RELEASE 3.0
-
-
- A file list window has been added in release 3.0. This window replaces the
- N command and ALT-N command. When you specify wild cards on the command
- line a filelist window will appear. Use the cursor keys to highlight the
- file you want to work with and press the enter key. After the contents of
- the ARC file are displayed you can POP-UP the file list window again by
- simply pressing the N key.
-
- NOTES FOR RELEASE 4.0
-
- Support for monochrome monitors has been added. Sharc automatically senses
- a monochrom monitor and adjusts the screen attributes for the monitor.
-
- Two small "bugs" have been corrected. When an extract path is entered it
- stays in effect for the entire session or until you change it. The window
- scrolling routine was corrected to correctly handle the end and cursor
- down keys after selecting a file for extraction or viewing.
-
-
-
-
- As usual any and all comments are welcome. If there are some features that
- are missing drop me a note and I'll try to accomodate you if I think the
- feature is generally usefull.
-
- NOTES FOR RELEASE 4.1
-
- The release adds support for release 3.6 of PKARC and PKXARC. SHARC
- will automatically determine which version is on your machine and will
- use whichever version it finds.
-
- NOTES FOR RELEASE 6.0
-
- Please note that there was no version 5.x.
- Release 6 add addition support of version 3.6 of PKARC. You can now TAG
- files for extraction by pressing the space bar to toggle the TAG status.
- Then press the CTRL-E key to extract all tagged files.
-
- For those of you that have monochrome monitors and can't see the selection
- bar try setting the environment variable mono=y. I.E. SET MONO=Y. I think
- this should solve the problem.
-
- Additional Stuff
-
- I have spent many hours on this program trying to make it as easy to use
- as possible and reasonably fast. If you use find this program of use to
- you I would appreciate a small contribution. Let your conscience be your
- guide. Contributions can be sent to:
